Prophylaxis of Bordetella bronchiseptica infection in guinea pigs by intranasal vaccination with live strain ts-S34.

چکیده

The temperature-sensitive mutant strain, ts-S34, of Bordetella bronchiseptica, which cannot grow at or above the temperature 34 degrees C, has been studied in guinea pigs. The strain grew to moderate numbers in the nasal turbinates but did not grow in the lungs. Guinea pigs given strain ts-S34 developed moderate levels of serum antibody. This strain also induced very high resistance to subsequent intranasal challenge with 4,000X the 50% lethal dose of virulent strain S1 of B. bronchiseptica. In these studies, it appeared that the ts-S34 strain had favorable properties for potential use as a live attenuated vaccine.

Some characteristics of a urease-negative, temperature- sensitive strain of Bordetella bronchiseptica as a live, attenuated vaccine.

Strain ts-S34 of Bordetella bronchiseptica was treated jointly with two mutagens, nitrosoguanidine and UV irradiation, and a urease-negative (u-), temperature-sensitive (ts) mutant strain indistinguishable from Alcaligenes faecalis in its biochemical characteristics was isolated. However, the mutant isolated was a phase III organism. By repeating selection of smaller, hemolytic colonies observe...

Pigs by Intranasal Vaccination with Live Strain ts-S34

Bordetella bronchiseptica is known to cause infectious atrophic rhinitis of swine (13) and rabbits (9), to cause respiratory diseases in dogs (1), and to bring about death due to sepsis of aninals such as mice (5), guinea pigs (5), and swine (M. Maeda and T. Shimizu, 83rd Meet. Jpn. Soc. Vet. Sci., Abstr. No. 66). Hitherto, killed vaccines were mainly studied for prophylaxis of B. bronchiseptic...

Adenovirus 2, Bordetella bronchiseptica, and Parainfluenza Molecular Diagnostic Assay Results in Puppies After vaccination with Modified Live Vaccines

BACKGROUND Canine adenovirus 2, parainfluenza, and Bordetella bronchiseptica cause respiratory disease in dogs, and each has a modified live intranasal vaccine available. Molecular diagnostic assays to amplify specific nucleic acids are available for each of these agents. If positive molecular diagnostic assay results are common after vaccination, the positive predictive value of the diagnostic...

Intranasal immunisation against tetanus with an attenuated Bordetella bronchiseptica vector expressing FrgC: improved immunogenicity using a Bvg-regulated promoter to express FrgC.

Mice were immunised intranasally with live Bordetella bronchiseptica aroA strains possessing plasmids encoding fragment C (FrgC) of tetanus toxin. FrgC was expressed either from a constitutive tac promoter (strain GVB120) or the Bvg-dependent fhaB promoter (strain GVB1543). Serum anti-FrgC antibody titres were detected in all mice immunised with GVB1543 and GVB120 but the average titres were hi...

Subcutaneous vaccination with attenuated Salmonella enterica serovar Choleraesuis C500 expressing recombinant filamentous hemagglutinin and pertactin antigens protects mice against fatal infections with both S. enterica serovar Choleraesuis and Bordetella bronchiseptica.

Salmonella enterica serovar Choleraesuis strain C500 is a live, attenuated vaccine that has been used in China for over 40 years to prevent piglet paratyphoid. We compared the protective efficacies of subcutaneous (s.c.) and oral vaccination of BALB/c mice with C500 expressing the recombinant filamentous hemagglutinin type I domain and pertactin region 2 domain antigen (rF1P2) of Bordetella bro...
